Book Review: Happy Wives Club

I found the Happy Wives Club once while surfing online and liked them on Facebook and thought the website was a great resource for women looking to have happy marriages.  Then I lost the site and hadn't been back in quite some time.  Recently, I was given the opportunity from BookLook Bloggers to review a book by Fawn Weaver about the Happy Wives Club.  It was a story about one woman's worldwide search for the secrets of a great marriage.  I went to her website and laughed at how life works and that I found her site again.

The first few chapters talked about how Fawn created her club and the reason behind the idea.  She wanted to provide a resource for women to support each other and help figure out how to keep a loving relationship going.  Her journey began in her state of California and she met with an elderly woman that she had only knew via the internet.  She was cautious at first with her meeting.  I know exactly how she feels as sometimes I do home visits for my Nursing career or Client meetings and I don't know the people, but I press on and meet them. I'm always thankful for how kind and nice everyone has been.

I love the chapter when she went around the world and was in Italy waiting to connect with someone and then realized it was herself that she needed to be with.  Sometimes we just need to take time out for ourselves.

She went to Buenas Aires, Argentina with her husband and met a lovely couple Marcello and Silvina.  It was clear that creating goals and working toward them together was one of the greatest gifts of their marriage.  Two minds instead of one and four hands instead of two.

Another of the tips was to tend to your spouse's needs and dreams as part of your day-to-day life, it begins to come natural to you and you don't have to think about it much.  Nor do you expect anything in return for your giving.  The obvious beauty of that approach is that if both spouses adopt this approach, both receive in good measure and give selflessly.  It's a good economy.

One wife, Kristine Carlson, shared how she chose to listen with her heart and let her heart receive what her husbands poured out.  In other words, they really connected, because she put her own reactions and retaliations aside.  She found an overwhelming place of love in a difficult moment when it could have been hard to find.

From that day forward, she would always lisen heart-to-heart. She would make sure her heart remained open to her husband's and would never allow momentary disagreements to close it.

Fawn discovered the theme throughout all her interviews and journey around the world was that 'Happiness is a choice'.

Chocolate-Covered Cashews Book Review

First of all, I love Chocolate-Covered Cashews, what a great title for those that love chocolate!  This book is not about chocolate though, it's about family and how people can find each other after so many years of not knowing they even existed.  This book by Wiley Baxter is his story of how he found out he had family after he bought a bag of Chocolate-Covered Cashews.  The book was provided to me from Booksneeze and I really enjoyed learning how this families secret was revealed.

Wiley Baxter was 57-years-old when God brought a surprise to him. Over the next four days, it was revealed to him that he was the biological father of identical twin daughters and four grandchildren, which resulted from a two-year marriage he had 36 years before. Overjoyed and overwhelmed, he began a new chapter in his life.

Here are my highlights from the book...

Here's a question for you.  Have you ever had a once-in-a-lifetime experience that totally changed your idea of how you would live your life from that point on-an experience that you wanted to share with everybody?

God has tried to reach me in many ways, by placing others in my path to encourage me to examine my heart.

My wish is to share with you one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Sometimes we need to fall to learn, even though we don't see it that way at the time.

Recognize the postivie input of loved ones in your life, let the people know we appreciate them.

"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know unto God" (Phil. 4:6).

One thing God does is fill our hearts with love, and there is plenty of love to go around.

The book includes two other family members that share their personal stories.  Overall, I enjoyed the story and was able to share the exciting news about this families special connections with my friends and family.
Book Rating 4 Stars

Do you have an exciting family story to share or a great book you recently read?  I'd love to hear about it.  Leave me a comment with a link to your blog or the book you recommend!

What To Do With Soft Apples, WW

I bought a bag of red delicious apples and my kids sampled a few and said they were too soft. I didn't want to throw them away so instead I looked up a recipe for baked apple pie and homemade apple sauce.

Here is a series of pictures of our day baking apples.

Sliced the apples

Coated the apples with cinnamon

Sprinkled in some secret ingredients

Ready for baking

Extra ingredients left for Lizzie

With the rest of the apples we made cinnamon applesauce

The final apple pie

Dessert is served

Applesauce is ready to eat
It was an exciting day, the pie was eaten quickly, and everyone loved the homemade applesauce. Have you ever made anything delicious with apples?

DIY Christmas Star Ornament made with recycled Toilet Paper Roll, WW

I was browsing Pinterest and found a great tutorial on how to make a DIY Christmas Star Ornament made from recycled Toilet Paper roll.  I had fun making mine and took photos of the steps I took to create my shining star!
First, I cut the roll into five sections.
Second, I painted each one white.
Third, I got out my hot glue gun and some sparkly blue glitter.
Fourth, I glued all the pieces together.
Lastly, I added the finished star to my Christmas tree.
Have you ever made an ornament?  If so, what kind did you make?
