NIV Quest Study Bible Review

I received this review copy of the new NIV Quest Study Bible for free as a member of the Bible Gateway Blogger Grid.  #BibleGatewayPartner

This is my honest review:

One of the things I loved about the Bible was the color, I'm always a fan of pretty blue and then the big question mark on the Bible is a perfect intro into what I am excited to learn from this study Bible.  My husband and I were just talking the other day about how different people are in how they believe the Bible.  Some people take it at face value and don't ask questions and others are full of questions.  This Study Bible is heavy and filled with hours of learning right from the beginning chapter of Genesis.  The first part answers the Who, What, Why, When and Where.

The maps and the questions are asked throughout the Bible.  The photo below is the specific features you'll find in this Bible.

I enjoy opening Bibles to where I look for a word from God.  So on page 755 is where I ended up reading from Job 21:1-15.  The nice blue bookmark is helpful so that I can come back to the spot I was learning easily.  What I was reading was of Job arguing his point or complaint.  The question on the side was "Why does the Bible include these arguments between friends?"  In Hebrew culture, disputing the meaning of Scripture or of life's events was not only acceptable but expected.  To Job's friends, truth could be found only in challenging each other's explanations.  People who heard this story and those arguments would think about them as explanations of not only Job's sufferings but their own as well.

This was interesting to me because in my house we don't like arguments, not that we argue all the time but we get frustrated with arguing.  So I took this as a lesson that I shared with my husband and we talked about how arguments back in history were looked at as ways people could learn from each other and also to view someones emotions or suffering.  Now I'm not suggesting to argue but it is a good idea to express your emotions and talk through your challenges.

I highly recommend this Study Bible and would give them a 5 star for those looking for a way to learn from the Bible in a deeper way.  Below is more detailed information about this Bible.

The original Quest Study Bible was conceived in 1989 when two publishing companies, Zondervan and Christianity Today International, worked together to develop a Bible that would answer the challenging questions that arose as people read Scripture. Focus groups around the United States evaluated the usefulness of potential study Bible features and helped select the features that would be included in this Bible. Then, more than 1,000 people received passages of Scripture and were asked, “What questions do you have about this portion of the Bible?” Their responses helped determine what kinds of questions the notes would answer, helping to create a resource that answers the questions that real people have asked about the Bible. Notes have been updated in subsequent releases to ensure that this Bible stays relevant and current to modern readers.
