Heartbeat Magazine Cover for November 2014 Edition and Giveaway

It's always fun to share the cover of the Heartbeat Connection Magazine as each month is a new journey in figuring out who or what will make the cover.  This last month I was browsing Facebook and found a beautiful photo of one of my friends daughters.  She was dressed in a Snow White costume for an upcoming play and looked surreal.  I quickly sent a message to my friend asking if she would like to let me feature her daughter and was pleased to share her with the world.  Read more about the cover in the magazine.

I am now hearing Christmas music on the radio, the lights are going up around my community, and I've seen a few Christmas trees in windows.  Do you decorate early and listen to holiday songs or wait till December?  I like to wait until just after Thanksgiving and then I jump into the holiday spirit.

It's hard to believe it will be half way through the school year soon.  This month we finished a fun science project with Jake---check out the story on page 6.  Nathan started High School basketball and we'll soon find out if Jake will be in middle school basketball.  I attended the GirlTalkTV trunk show event and met so many nice people, bought my daughter some cute earrings and a bracelet and myself a great egg platter from The Clay Place.

An upcoming event, Dec. 4th, that I'm looking forward to attending is the Blue Mangrove Gallery's 8th Anniversary.  They will be hosting famous black & white photographer Clyde Butcher and he'll be signing autographs.

Enjoy our giveaway from www.SEMYART.com. They will be giving away a Christmas Santa treasure!  Enter on our giveaway page for your chance to win.

Heartbeat Magazine Cover Story for October 2014 and Giveaway from GirlTalkTV

In October,  I met with Sherry Bryant of GirlTalkTV.com at Calistoga's to take some photos outside by the flower garden.  It was a lovely day and we chatted about poses and where to take the shots.  The cover photo was an idea of Sherry's called the peek-a-boo shot. I am in love with the results.  Please enjoy the latest issue at Heartbeatmag.com

The fun thing about living in Naples, is there are so many great ladies events.  Last year I was invited to Sherry Bryant's Fall Trunk Event and really wanted to attend but missed out.  I soon became friends with her on Facebook and just recently we were able to collaborate.  The Heartbeat Connection Magazine will be in each swag bag at her upcoming event for GirlTalkTV.  This month's issue showcases Sherry on the cover.  She sure is a beautiful cover girl!

Here's our interview:

How did you get involved in your business?
I began GirlTalkTV as a way to make connections with other women. I began with little knowledge and experience in multimedia industry and even less about running a business. What I did have was a passion for helping other women, a desire to gain freedom from the typical 9-5 office setting, and a love of performing for an audience.

What do you enjoy about it?
What I enjoy most about GirlTalkTV is the connections that I get to make with women from all over the world. It's extremely gratifying when I hear from someone that their life has been positively affected by the work that I do. Of course, being able to bring a unique media coverage spin on local and national social events is a perk that I have come to enjoy quite a bit as well.

Do you have any specialties?
GirlTalkTV specializes in all things women related. We provide fun tip driven advice and media coverage on topics such as fashion, health, style, relationships, and entertainment.

Is there a heartfelt community cause you support?
Not many people know that my educational background is in Social Work. Therefore, I'm use to supporting my community across many causes. Some of the causes that GirlTalkTV has partnered with include Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, American Cancer Society, Garden of Hope and Courage, PACE Center for Girls of Immokalee, and Dress for Success SW FL. 20 Short Ones by Dan Salerno Book Review

I was given the opportunity to review this book, 20 Short Ones: 20 Short Stories by Dan Salerno from Booklookbloggers.com.  I enjoyed that I could read 20 short stories all in one book.  The only problem I had was when I really liked one story and wanted it to continue further.  The book took me to many different places, had a strong focus on relationships, and the locations were mostly in Michigan or Ireland. Here are my highlights from the book:

"Life gets complicated.  As soon as  you begin understanding that there's more to life than you, and become interested in other people, then you realize you can't live without them, and you stop telling the truth so that they'll like you."  "Well, now that you put it that way, yes, it does make a lot of sense.  People realize they need to be loved, right?  So, part of the price you pay for love is to turn a blind eye to what could hurt somebody."

"You must have built up a whole ocean full of memories behind you."

"Because everybody has experiences that they need to tell other people about.  If they don't they just stay there and build up until they're shared with someone."

"Maybe love trumps embarrassment."

"It's better to have loved in vain than never to have loved at all"

"Whoever first quipped that a way to a man's heart was through their stomach wasn't too far off."

"The point is that you can't force a person to be merciful, because it's based on grace.  But once given, mercy blesses both the one who gives it as well as the one who's fortunate to receive it."

"Psalm 85: "Mercy and truth have met together, Righteousness and peace have kissed."

"But I'm not my mom and I have a choice.  I can choose to look beyond the ship, and when she yells at me because she's sinking and afraid, I can reach out my hand to her and offer her my love.  Because I'm not on the same sinking boat if I make the choice."

"Chit-chat is just a way for people to break the ice.  To become relaxed with each other so a real heart-to-heart can happen."

"If you aren't out there observing how others interact, and do a little interacting yourself, you don't have much of a chance to mimic patterns of socially acceptable behavior, like dating.

"Good posture lent itself to making good decisions."

"How do you respond when life hands you a second chance when your heart seems to be thumping along at a hundred miles and hour?"

"The laugh was from someplace deep inside, a wellspring of happiness that couldn't be stopped."

"We accept the love we think we deserve."

Irish saying, "If you kiss someone for the first time under a full moon, you'll fall in love." And they did.

Book Review Sarah's Choice by Rebecca St. James and Nancy Rue

The one thing I love most about life is the ability to make my own choices.  I was given the opportunity to review a book from BookLookBloggers.com called Sarah's Choice by Rebecca St. James and Nancy Rue.  Every time I read a book I make sure and highlight my favorite quotes.  My first highlight was from the Foreword.

Everyone relishes reading a book when you know the author writes from the heart and draws from a wealth of experience.

Their writing is just like her singing...fresh, creative, and from the heart...bold yet compassionate, knowledgeable but gracious, and funny yet honest.

Sarah's Choice was about a girl that was planning on getting an amazing career opportunity and then finds out she's pregnant.  She struggles with making the right choice as she has so many things that are out of balance in her life and feels that one more thing would end her.  She believed that success was 90 percent attitude and as per her mentor at work said that getting ahead in life was important and family didn't fit into the picture.

The story is in winter and around Christmas time, she lost her father last year and has a hard time caring about God and her family. Each time she gets together with her family she feels the loss and heartache.   By Friday afternoon that aloneness pressed down so hard on Sarah's shoulders, she couldn't bear her own heartbeat.  Sarah's boyfriend Matt finds out that she is pregnant and has a meltdown, then talks with his Uncle Clay.  Clay says, "Love isn't this...thing that just sticks to certain people.  It's the result of fighting to keep a commitment you made." "It's living for somebody else."  "You could have the great stuff, but you can only get it by going through the hard stuff.  Because that's where the great stuff is."

During the story Uncle Clay is a great support for Matt.  "I get that it's overwhelming right now.  But think of it like your desk when it's covered with paperwork.  What do you do?  You take it one piece at a time and decide what's important to do now."

Sarah's office mentor took her to a clinic after she found out she was pregnant and told her that if she wanted a successful career that this was the only option.  After she left the clinic without making a choice a mysterious older woman gave her a card with three wise men and told her she would have some dreams to help her make the right choice.

During her struggles the person she was going to be replacing in the office was also pregnant and almost ready to deliver.  It's funny how God will have people in our lives that can be examples to us and allow us to watch them to see how it can be possible.  She befriends Sarah and provides her with remedies for nausea and ways to look at her situation differently.

For those that love Christian romance than I highly recommend this book, it's filled with mystery, struggle, and love.  The book offers a better understanding on why people do make the choices they make and how families can come together to support each other.

Nicole Flothe

Heartbeat Connection Magazine Cover June 2014 and Monster Manners Giveaway

With the weather being so unpredictable lately, the sky shines with color. Each night when the sun goes down, if it's just rained, the highlights on the clouds are so beautiful. The June 2014 cover photo was taken after a recent storm and pink clouds and blue sky are vibrant against the dark tree line.

Our fun giveaway for the month is from Sesame Street, the Monster Manners DVD.  Enter our giveaway held by Rafflecopter below for your chance to win!

I was asked to review a new show by Sesame Street called Monster Manners.  My kids are eight and older, so I wasn't sure if the show would hold their attention, but I was pleasantly surprised.  My daughter loved watching the show and her 10 year old brother thought it was funny.  As a parent I enjoyed the simple lessons they shared.  Cookie Monster shows us table manners, Elmo learns to share, and Rosita learns about no pushing.  There was several songs and one that my kids made their older brother watch was Cookie Monster singing, Me want it.  Then while we were in town we found the video on YouTube and they had their dad watch the funny remix too.

PLEASE JOIN THE FURRY MONSTERS FROM SESAME STREET AND WARNER BROS. HOME ENTERTAINMENT AS THEY KINDLY TEACH MANNERS TO PRESCHOOLERS IN
Sesame Street: Monster Manners

The Nesting Place by Myquillyn Smith book review, You Make Your Home Beautiful

I was given the opportunity from Booklookbloggers.com to review the NESTING Place by Myquillyn Smith.  I really enjoyed reading about all her many homes she lived in and how she was able to make each place hers by adding her special touch.

From the Publisher:
Perfection is overrated. Popular blogger and self-taught decorator, Myquillyn Smith (The Nester), is all about embracing reality---especially when it comes to decorating a home bursting with boys, pets, and all the unpredictable messes of life. In The Nesting Place, Myquillyn shares the secrets of decorating for real people---and it has nothing to do with creating a flawless look to wow your guests. It has everything to do with embracing the natural imperfection and chaos of daily living. Drawing on her years of experience creating beauty in her 13 different homes, Myquillyn will show you how to think differently about the true purpose of your home and simply and creatively tailor it to reflect you and your unique style.

Full of easy tips, simple steps, and practical advice, The Nesting Place will give you the courage to take risks with your home and transform it into a place that's inviting and warm for family and friends. Myquillyn says, There is beauty in the lived-in and loved-on and just-about-used- up, and welcoming that imperfection wholeheartedly just might be the most freeing thing you'll ever do.

Creating a beautiful home is a journey, not a destination.

This stay-at-home mom in stretchy yoga pants with expired milk in her refrigerator has stumbled upon the secret to decorating for real people, and it has nothing to do with trying to convince others of our perfection. Imperfections put people at ease and free us to take risks and create the home and the life we've always wanted.

Myquillyn's warm and insightful words are paired with her own gorgeous four-color photos and creative, easy ideas for arranging, decorating, and building a home that welcomes everyone. In the book you learn how to create your own style without breaking the bank or stressing over comparisons.

FOCUS on the beauty that’s there, not the imperfect and undone.
